Our Feathery Friends

Lesson: EYFS

Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024

Based on our story "Owl Babies" we invited some real life owls to school to learn more about them. Tito and friends taught us so much about owls. We also met a Kestrel and a Hawk named Max!
Here are some of the facts we now know:

Owls that have yellow eyes are daytime hunters.
Owls with black eyes hunt in the night time.
Owls with organs eyes hunt at dusk.
the little tufts of feathers on top of some owl's heads are called Ploomicorns.
Owls ears are found in their facial discs. They hunt with their ears more than their eyes.
Owls move their heads because their eyes cannot move like ours.
Owls have 14 bones in their necks but humans only have 7, that's why we can't spin our heads like owls do!

Owls are fascinating. We have filled our floor book with lots more information so that we never forget what we have learned.
Thank you Tito!
