Year 3 2026 - 2027

Miss Blackledge

Mrs McLoughlin

Welcome to Year 3

In Year 3 we learn and grow,
With lots of new things to explore and know.
We read, we wonder,  we think and create,
We learn to be kind, brave and great.

We make new friends and find our way,
We laugh, we share and grow each day.
With curious minds and hearts sincere,
There’s something wonderful waiting here.

Meet the Year 3 Team

Our teachers in Year 3 are Mrs Blackledge (3LB), Mrs McLoughlin and Mrs Lee (3NMSL). They are supported by Miss Maya and Miss Chadwick.

As children begin their KS2 journey, we aim to support them in becoming confident, curious and resilient learners who embrace new challenges, learn from mistakes and take pride in all that they achieve.

We recognise that every child is unique, and we aim to help each child reach their full potential, celebrating and nurturing their individual talents, strengths and interests across the curriculum.

PE

Children need to have a full PE kit in school every week. PE sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in both classes.

Children will need:

  • Black shorts
  • A plain white top
  • Leggings or joggers for cooler days
  • A fleece or suitable warm layer
  • Trainers suitable for outdoor PE

Tuesday: Outdoor 'Woodland Wonderers' (new forest-school activities)
Thursday: Indoor gymnastics

In addition to PE lessons, the children will use our school running track as part of the Daily Mile. We have found this to have a very positive impact on children's wellbeing, physical health and readiness for learning.

Reading

Reading for both purpose and pleasure remains a very important part of school life in Year 3. We want every child to grow in confidence as a reader while developing a genuine love of reading that will support them throughout their school life – and beyond.

We believe that being a confident and capable reader opens doors to learning, opportunity and imagination. Developing strong reading skills and a lifelong love of books will help our children to thrive, both in school and in the wider world.

Please ensure that your child's reading folder and book is brought into school every day, so that we can make the most of every opportunity to read and share books together.

KS2 Library

Children will have regular opportunities to visit our wonderful KS2 library, where they can choose books to enjoy at home, as well as taking part in weekly story time sessions. We encourage children to explore a wide range of books and authors and to share their reading experiences with one another.

Book talk is an important part of developing a love of reading. Talking about books, sharing recommendations and discussing our thoughts and ideas helps children to see themselves as readers and supports the development of lifelong reading habits.

Home Learning

We believe that home life should leave plenty of time for family, fun and friendships. However, a small amount of regular home learning can be extremely beneficial, helping children to consolidate and practise the skills they have learned in school.

We encourage children to read or share books every day where possible, and at least three times each week. This might include reading to you, listening to you read, reading independently, or sharing and discussing a book together.

Children will also be given a Times Tables Rock Stars login. Short, regular practice at home can make a real difference to children's fluency, recall and confidence with multiplication and division facts.

Snack & Water

Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day.

Children can purchase a snack from school each day:

Toast, bagels or crumpets – 20p each

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, children will also have the choice of a healthy snack.

Children are welcome to bring their own healthy snack from home.

School Spider

We continue to use School Spider in Year 3 to share your children's learning experiences with you. Please check in regularly to see what the children have been learning, creating and enjoying in class.

We will also share a weekly message containing important information about the week ahead. Please be sure to read this each week so that you don't miss any key information or reminders.

If you don't have access to School Spider, or if you need any further information, please contact us by email:

Attendance and punctuality

We encourage children to arrive promptly each morning so that they are ready to begin the day positively with their friends and classmates. Our classroom doors open at 8.30am, giving children time to settle in and get ready for the day ahead.

We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning, curiosity and discovery.
