Year 4 Autumn Term 2017

Welcome back. This term is going to be jam packed as always!

Our main theme this half term is Walk like a Roman. We will be doing just that to kick the unit off with a visit to Chester mid September. We will be learning about the Roman way of life, their food, their homes and life as a Roman centurion. Our English units of work will complement this as we will be reading and writing our own extract from a Roman myth and will then be creating a non-fiction text about Roman life.

In Science this half term we will continue to build on the work the children did on rocks in Year 3. The children will look at different types of rocks and investigate their suitability for building and other uses.

In RE, we will be looking at Islam. We will learn about Muhammad, the mosque and life as a Muslim. We hope that as part of this topic we can discover more about life as a Muslim by listening to a talk from older children in the school.

In PSHE, we will be learning about new beginnings. We will learn about making people feel welcome, creating rules and why rules exist and how to deal with our emotions when we have choices to make.

We will swim one session per week (Monday 4SB and Thursday 4ML) and will also begin our outdoor PE sessions, so don't forget your kits! (Black shorts, black pumps or trainers and white t-shirt).

In Spanish this half term we will be focusing on food and colours and will be working around the story of The Hungry Caterpillar.

Phew! It's going to be a very busy start! All aboard the learning journey!
